Priority 4
Priority 4 – Enhancement of talents and work inclusion
The inclusion of persons with disabilities in work is a human right and an essential pillar for independence, self-determination and well-being. Work is not merely a source of income, but also a tool for developing talent, social emancipation and active participation in community life. The G7 nations recognise the fundamental role of businesses, public institutions and the third sector in creating inclusive work environments and in supporting persons with disabilities in their professional careers.
Decent employment must be accessible to all, in an open and fair labour market without barriers. This means providing reasonable adjustments, recognising individual preferences, supporting career paths, and ensuring fair conditions of pay, security and social protection. Particular attention should be paid to women and vulnerable groups with disabilities, who face greater obstacles in the workforce.
Innovative business models that leverage skills and competences, including within the social economy, should be promoted, with particular regard to those led by persons with disabilities. Assistive technologies, accessible training programmes and inclusive education - from school to university - are essential elements for preparing persons with disabilities for the workplace of the future.
Finally, dialogue between organisations of persons with disabilities, businesses and institutions is crucial for disseminating best practices and building work environments that not only welcome but also allow everyone's talents to emerge.
