Priority 5
Priority 5 – Promotion of new technologies
New technologies are a key tool for promoting inclusion, sustainable development and well-being, especially when designed with accessibility in mind. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence-based systems, including generative AI, can improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities, facilitating their participation in every area: work, health, education, sports, culture and daily life.
However, in order to be truly inclusive, these solutions must be accessible by design, directly involving persons with disabilities at every stage of their development and use. This is the only way to avoid the risk of reinforcing existing inequalities and compromising fundamental rights, such as privacy and data protection.
The G7 nations are committed to collaborating with businesses, organisations of persons with disabilities, the academic world and stakeholders in the ethical and technological sectors to develop safe, ethical, interoperable and inclusive digital systems. Particular attention is paid to the development of easy-to-use assistive technologies and enabling tools that can increase independence in areas such as mobility, communication, work, health and information.
It is essential to ensure easy access to these technologies for all, even in contexts with fewer resources, by breaking down barriers related to cost, availability and digital skills. The G7 is committed to spreading awareness of new accessible technologies globally, ensuring that nobody is excluded from the benefits of innovation.
