Priority 6
Priority 6 – Sports, recreational and cultural dimension of life
The participation of persons with disabilities in sports, recreational activities and cultural life is a fundamental right that makes a significant contribution to their physical, psychological and emotional well-being throughout their lives. These experiences foster self-esteem, sociability, the discovery of one's talents, and the opportunity to cultivate passions and relationships, helping to reduce stigma and marginalisation.
Everyone has the right to choose freely their sporting, artistic and recreational activities, even professionally, and must be able to do so with accessible tools and environments, on an equal footing with others. For this reason, the G7 nations are committed to promoting sport and physical activity in all its forms - from rehabilitation to competitive level - by removing barriers to participation, starting in school.
The experience of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games has demonstrated the transformative power of sport in developing the capabilities of persons with disabilities. Governments are committed to helping to increase the popularity of Paralympic sports and to promote inclusive sport, especially among young people, as a tool for diversity education, social cohesion and cultural change.
